Speed, Strength and Conditioning

"Speed Kills, Strength Dominates"

Golden West College Strength and Conditioning Program is designed to help each athlete reach his fullest potential as a football player through the entities of strength and conditioning. Success is achieved through a well-designed strength/conditioning program that is well coached. The primary focus of our program is POWER. No matter how strong a football player, unless force can be applied and delivered quickly, it is worthless on the field of play. Our program is based on Olympic style lifts and Core strength lifts. These exercises are free-weight, ground based, multi-joint, multi-muscle lifts requiring the production of speed and force against the ground. The goal is to develop this power in the weight room and have it transfer to competition.

Program Goals:

A. Train the athlete to be the best/most physically complete player they can be. Develop the athlete's physical attributes to enhance athleticism and reduce injuries to meet the specific demands of football, which include:
  • Strength
• Ground-Based Power/ Explosiveness
• Lineal Speed
• Lateral Speed and Agility
• Balance/ Coordination/ Postural Awareness
• Anaerobic Conditioning
• Flexibility
• Mental Toughness
• Proper Nutrition and Recovery

B. Prepare the athletes physically so they can remain healthy and continue to perform throughout the season.

C. Help to restore injured athletes to a full recovery and back to competition.
