Head Coach

Head coach Matt Wells is in his 7th year at the helm of the Rustler Soccer Program. After a long absence from the playoffs, Wells piloted the Rustlers to a berth into the playoffs in 2005 and 2006. Coach Wells earned the accolade of Orange Empire Conference Coach of the Year in the 2005 season, taking a near second place in conference, and posting an overall record of 14-4-3, their best record in over a decade.

An Orange County native, Wells prepped at Ocean View High School before becoming a First Team All-Orange Empire Conference selection for the Rustlers. After playing for Golden West in 1994 and 1996, Wells helped lead Hope International to a fifth place finish in the national tournament in 1997. During his senior year, Wells transferred to Vanguard University in Costa Mesa where he was an NAIA Academic All-American and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 3.94 grade point average.

In addition to coaching at Golden West, Wells played in the Coast Soccer Adult Premiere League for eight seasons after college and has been a USSF referee for the past ten years. He coaches a youth soccer team with Wolfpack Soccer Club, and also serves as the Huntington Beach High School girl’s soccer head coach.

Alex Gimenez, Roberto Castellano, and Tony Medina join Coach Wells to help in leading the Men’s Program to another successful year.
