Kognito - Increase Awareness of Mental Health Issues and Resources

Access simulations 24/7 at: http://kognito.com/ccc

This suite of six online, interactive, and research-proven http://www.kognito.com/efficacy/ training simulations are designed to educate our faculty, staff, and students about best practices in supporting (1) students who struggle with psychological distress including depression and suicidal ideation, (2) LGBTQ students who are struggling due to harassment or exclusion, and (3) student veterans who are facing challenges in adjusting to college life.

Interact with student avatars in the online game! Each training takes 30-60 minutes to complete and is structured as a virtual practice environment where users learn by engaging in interactive role-play conversations with emotionally responsive student avatars. The suite is available at no-cost to all California community college faculty, staff, and students*. Certificates of completion are available for each course are great for your portfolio and possible extra credit (check with your professor). In addition, your name will be entered in an opportunity drawing to win an iPad Mini or Nano.

Please note: the simulations refer to the office where students can seek mental health services as the "Counseling Center." At GWC, this type of counseling is at the Student Health Center, on the first floor of the School of Nursing & Health Services Building off the Edinger parking lot.

*These online training courses are made available to all California community colleges through the CCC Student Mental Health Program, a partnership between the Chancellor's Office and the Foundation for California Community Colleges (FCCC) funded through a grant from the California Mental Health Services Authority (CalMHSA). CalMHSA is an organization of county governments working to improve mental health outcomes for individuals, families and communities. CalMHSA administers programs funded by the voter approved Mental Health Services Act (Prop. 63) on a statewide, regional and local basis.
