Emergency Preparedness Update

                Emergency Plan

  • The flip charts have been finalized and will be posted up in each class room detailing Emergency contact numbers and procedures on how to deal with certain situations (Earthquake, Fire, Gunman on campus, etc.)
  • A draft of the Golden West College Emergency Response Plan was distributed.  The contents include the Plan Overview, Command Section, Operations Section, Planning Section, Logistic Section, Plan Maintenance, Training, and Exercise Schedule, as well as, campus map locations, and the maps of the locations of the Command Post.

Training

  • There will be Emergency Preparedness Trainings in the coming weeks to training the faculty and staff on what to do during emergencies.  The first trainings will be open to everyone and are on Monday 9/14/2009 9-10, Wednesday 9/16/2009 11-12, Monday 9/21/2009 12-1, or Wednesday 9/23/2009 3-4.  There is also a Incident Command Training on Wednesday 9/30/2009 9-11:30, Monday 10/05/2009 9-11:30, or Wednesday 10/07/2009 2-4:30.

Trailer/Supplies

  • It was recommended to have all supplies stored in the New Health Science building.

Budget Overview

  • A budget spreadsheet was shown detailing information on how money was spent for Emergency Preparedness.
  • Brent then asked to have the purchase of a New Repeater for the Emergency Trailer and 10 radios which was approved.

The Great Southern California Shakeout Exercise – October 15, 2009

  • On Thursday 10/15/2009 at 10:15 am there will be a campus wide evacuation.  The student are being asked to Duck, Cover, and Hold.  Then, they are to evacuate the building to the designated Assembly Area.  Once the students are led back to the classrooms to continue class, the higher position staff (Building Marshalls, Incident Command, etc.) will continue the Response exercise until noon.
  • Floor maps were shown and were critiqued.  It was asked to have all evacuation maps that were to be posted in each classroom to be simplified so students that are evacuating will have a clear understanding on where to go to evacuate and for faculty and staff to possess a more detailed map to ensure that the managers are fully aware of all assembly areas on campus.
