Testing the Emergency Alert System May 15
Tomorrow, Tuesday, May 15th, starting at 9:30 a.m., the District will be participating in the annual California Golden Guardian exercise. This year’s exercise will be based on a magnitude 7.8 earthquake which will strike along the southern region of the San Andreas Fault. As part of this exercise, the District will begin testing its new emergency notification system, Blackboard Connect.
From 9:30 until 9:45 a.m., the District Office and each campus will be sending out a series of emergency messages announcing the Golden Guardian exercise. The message headers from each campus will read as follows: ·
- Orange Coast College – OCC ALERT
- Golden West College – GWC ALERT
- Coastline Community College – CCC ALERT
- Coast Community College District – CCCD ALERT
Employees and students will be sent a series of “test” notices via the following means:
- Office email
- Office telephone number
- Cell phone number
- Personal Text (SMS) message
- Home telephone number
Since the District is still in the process of refining how student and employee emergency contact information will be extracted from Banner, you may receive multiple emergency “test” messages and emails during the exercise. Though the messages may be somewhat redundant, please bear with us as we continue to refine our emergency contact capabilities. It is the District’s goal in a real disaster or emergency that the CCCD community receives the critical information and direction needed to ensure everyone’s safety and well being.
