GWC Formalizes Partnership with CSUF to Increase Transfer Rates, Student Success

GWC has formalized an agreement with CSUF that gives students at GWC an admissions advantage

Huntington Beach, Calif. — Golden West College has formalized an agreement with California State University, Fullerton that gives students at GWC an admissions advantage compared to general or local Grade Point Average (GPA) thresholds.

Earlier this year, the Coast Community College District Board of Trustees ratified a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that is valid until 2028 and creates a guaranteed path to transfer for GWC students who have a minimum 2.8 transferable GPA.

All GWC students will have access to support services that will help them transition successfully to Cal State Fullerton, including welcome events, workshops, transfer signing days and specialized campus tours.

“This is more than a partnership — it’s a promise to open new doors of opportunity and help more students reach their full potential,” said Dr. Ronald Rochon, President of Cal State Fullerton. “The MOU reflects our shared commitment to expanding access, student success, workforce development and the future of our region.”

GWC will host a formal MOU signing event on Friday, April 18 at 1:30 p.m. recognizing the partnership between the College and CSUF. The signing event will take place in the Student Services Center Lobby and will include Coast District Chancellor Whitney Yamamura, GWC President Meridith Randall and CSUF President Rochon, as well as executive leaders from both campuses.

“We are thrilled to announce this guaranteed transfer agreement MOU, which opens a clear and seamless pathway for our students to continue their academic journeys at Cal State Fullerton,” says President Randall. “This partnership reflects GWC’s and CSUF’s shared commitment to empowering students with opportunities for growth, success and achieving their educational goals.”

According to the MOU, participants must be first-time, full-time college students when enrolling at Golden West. GWC’s Transfer Center will work closely with CSUF’s Center for Educational Partnerships to identify students who are eligible for the transfer guarantee or transfer advantage, and both institutions will collaborate to produce an annual report that includes comprehensive enrollment data.
