Session Description: o effectively invest in student success, Golden West College (GWC) must employ intentional, rigorous, and integrated planning processes that include the faculty voice. This session will share how the GWC planning process is designed to align the work across the college to its mission. The session will share a recently refined Student Equity Plan and how faculty can provide critical feedback to fortify the plan. Finally, attendees will have the unique opportunity to gain insights from a peer faculty member’s equity inquiry, illuminating its relevance to their own roles and responsibilities.

Session Description: Did you know Golden West College only has one employee who is in charge of maintaining the College’s websites, which includes multiple sites and thousands of individual pages? As you can imagine, this can be a time-consuming task! If you’ve ever wished that you could skip the line of people waiting to update the information on their program or department’s website and just do it yourself, then you won’t want to miss this session. GWC’s Web developer will provide you with an overview of how to become a Web editor, as well as how to obtain ongoing support so that you are successful in the role.

Gender and Inclusion in the Classroom

Session Description: Did you know that 1 in 4 LGBTQIA+ youth use pronouns or pronoun combinations that fall outside of the binary construction of gender? Have you heard the term neopronoun” but aren’t entirely sure what it means? This session will cover foundational information about the LGBTQIA+ population, especially as it pertains to the classroom. We will then discuss some of the main ways in which queer youth have encountered discrimination in higher education, and the practices that you can implement to create a more inclusive learning environment for students of all identities – starting on day one!

Student Basic Needs

Session Description: Often times, students are faced with challenges outside the classroom. Join this session to learn more about Basic Needs services available at Golden West, including the food pantry (The Stand), professional clothing closet (The Rack), Chromebook loan program, and connecting students with resources. We will discuss how to refer any enrolled student to access our Basic Needs services and also discuss local resources such as resource centers, mental health agencies, and housing resources.
